Better News (嬉しいこと, Ureshī Koto?) is the fifteenth chapter of the Koe no Katachi manga and the first chapter of Volume 3.
Summary[]
"Better News" opens up with Nagatsuka entering his phone information into Shōya's new phone. He remarks that Shōya does not have many contacts, so Nagatsuka ended up adding Yuzuru's information as well. Shōya says that he has to get going in order to return Shōko's umbrella. The three of them meet at the bridge, and Shōya returns the umbrella. Nagatsuka urges Shōya to get Shōko's contact information, and Shōya asks if Shōko would like anyone's contact information from Suimon Elementary. Shōko says she does and asks for Sahara's contacts, but Shōya does not have that. Shōko says that Sahara was hurt because of her back in Suimon, and Shōya thinks that he would like to punch his younger self for thinking Shōko was a clueless idiot that didn't even notice how Sahara stopped going to school because of the situation with Shōko.
The next day, Shōya goes back to school. Rumors and gossip regarding his jumping off the bridge circulate around the classroom, and a blocked-out Mashiba remarks that he would like to know what the article was about. Nagatsuka jumps in to defend Shōya, saying that his friend jumped into the river to save a drowning kitten. Kawai enters the conversation to say that Shōya has always been like this and Shōya realizes that he can ask her about Sahara Miyoko's contact information. Kawai does not know Sahara's contacts, but she tells Shōya that Ueno told her the two of them attend Taiyo Girl's Academy together.
Later, Shōya meets the Nishimiyas. Yuzuru explains that her sister wants to go with Shōya to find Sahara because it has to do with Shōko. Then, Yuzuru and Nagatsuka both leave Shōya and Shōko together. The two board a train and stand across from each other. Shōya feels awkward and does not really know what to say until Shōko messages him, "Are you tired?" Shōko also thanks Shōya for aiding in finding Sahara and helping Yuzuru search for her that night in Chapter 13.
