Sis (姉ちゃん, Nē-chan?) is the twelfth chapter of the Koe no Katachi manga and the seventh chapter of Volume 2.
Summary[]
From Yuzuru's perspective, she expresses how she hated Shōya, taking a photo of him jumping in the river of Suimon Bridge and creating a fake article with it. When Shōko confronts her about the article, Yuzuru becomes annoyed and tries dismissing her sister’s insistence that they apologize to Shōya. They argue in sign language before Shōko tells Yuzuru that she doesn’t need her (to apologize)[1]. However, Yuzuru interprets her words a bit differently and becomes hurt, running away from their home in the middle of the night.
The next day, Shōya finishes his apology letter to the school before his sister asks him to pick up Maria at five. After getting Maria from preschool, Shōya brings to her the park where she finds Yuzuru sleeping inside the playground. Shōya checks on Yuzuru, who tries to play off her clear shock and fatigue by questioning why he isn’t in school. After learning Shōya was suspended because of her article, Yuzuru reveals that she posted it, anticipating an angry response from him. However, he actually expresses relief that it was her, believing he knows why she did it. When Shōya says he brought it on himself, Yuzuru thinks back to Shōko and wonders if self-blame was the reason she never got mad.
Their conversation is interrupted by Maria, who tells Shōya she’s hungry. Yuzuru thinks the girl is Shōya’s kid, though he clarifies that she’s his niece. As Shōya starts to head home, Yuzuru begins losing consciousness, causing him to worry about her safety. She declines his offer to eat dinner at his home, though carries her back after she faints from exhaustion. Although Miyako Ishida is surprised by Yuzuru’s presence, she makes dinner for her along with the others. Shōya tries to get Yuzuru to eat, although she refuses until Maria tries feeding her. Yuzuru takes a bath and is given a change of clothes, spending the night at the Ishida household.
At three o'clock in the morning, Miyako wakes Shōya up and asks him to help her investigate the knocking at the salon’s door. They nervously check the door, only to find a panicked Yaeko Nishimiya, who’s looking for Shōko. Yaeko says her daughter hasn’t come home yet, which prompts Shōya to put on shoes and try looking for her. Yuzuru wakes up and asks Shōya what he’s doing, realizing that Shōko is out looking for her. She asks to borrow his shoes so she can go with him.
